• Teresa Matthews, LMT, CPT, (904) 745-1688 www.HWFP.org, is the new State Sports Director. She is teaching the Basic Sports Massage Therapy class, required for membership on the FSMTA Sports Team, at Convention, Friday June 29, 8am-12pm.
• Per Teresa’s directive toward Team unification she selected more instructors to teach the Basic Sports Massage Class. The New FSMTA Sports Massage Therapy Instructors are: Stacy (Sugar Dunes),David Gonzalez (Dade),William Muhlstadt (Tampa), Bob Murray (Palm Beach), Teo Nikolov(SW),and Michele Weissman(Sarasota-Manatee). These designated State-wide instructors met in Orlando January 6^th for Training.
• The Executive Board convened January 7-8^th. Please note that the EB approved the creation of an Advanced Sports Massage Team for the new instructors to teach, in addition to a 2 hour CE class for Chapter meetings. Only FSMTA Sports Team members may wear the Sports Team shirt and those members may only wear the FSMTA Sports Team shirt at FSMTA sanctioned events. All other non-FSMTA events please wear your regular FSMTA shirt.
• ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS Now is the time to say Thank You to those members that do a little extra for our chapter, the FSMTA and our profession. Please take 5 minutes to email Central Office who you want for State Sports Team of the Year and State Sports Massage Therapist of the Year. I personally am nominating the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter for State Sports Team of the Year. Next email Eddie Hooper or a Board member OR hand us your nomination at the February monthly meeting for Chapter Outstanding Sports Massage Team Member. I received this honorable award last year and really appreciate the recognition! Please do the same this year for that extra special Team member and let them know your appreciate their extra work, spreading the benefits of Massage Therapy to the public. DEADLINE: February 29TH.
• Did you expand your horizons and contact John Pyle for the Patriot Run Across America? I spoke with Kathleen Kane, the MT who worked on Marshall Ulrich, Running on Empty. She said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and was happy to have participated. She was Marshall’s dedicated therapist for 3 weeks trying to break a time record (2008). John Pyle’s ultra running event, Patriot Run Across America, http://www.patriotrunacrossamerica.com/ in not for a record, but rather for charity. He is requesting a dedicated professional Therapist from the FSMTA a minimum commitment of 7-10 days to Massage him cross-country. Go for It! Deadline has been extended.

• A super Big Thank You to Bev Smith who donated posters and educational material. We look forward to sharing these with the athletes at sporting events and teaching them about the benefits of Massage Therapy for the health and well-being.
